Carmall.com - Canada's Gilles-Villeneuve Circuit saw this season's first victory for the 2008 Formula One Champion with the Brit coming on top after a three-way scuffle for first position almost all throughout the race.

Starting out in the second pole position behind Sebastian Vettel, Lewis Hamilton was immediately involved in a tight battle with Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel with the three taking turns in leading the race up to the 64th lap.

However, while Vettel and Alonso seemed to lose steam in the later stages of the race, Hamilton continued on a spirited pursuit of the win. And by the 66th lap, both Alonso and Vettel have lost their positions to Romain Grosjean.

The final lap (70) concluded with Hamilton winning by 2.5 seconds ahead of second-place Romain Grosjean of Lotus-Renault, with Sauber-Ferrari's Sergio Perez taking the last podium position ahead of Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso in fourth and fifth respectively.

This victory also features some interesting facts. Besides the track being Lewis Hamilton's F1 maiden win seven years ago, Lewis Hamilton also becomes the seventh different winner in seven series of this F1 season. The win also puts Hamilton in first on the current standings. (Martin H. S.)
