Carmall.com - Probably not many of you knew that this 5-passenger city car's predecessor is also known as the Daewoo Matiz. In 1998, General Motors (GM) worked together with Daewoo (South Korea) to launch the Matiz-Spark globally, including in Indonesia.

The first generation (codenamed M100-M150) was also marketed in China as the Chevrolet Spark. However, GM China suspected indications of design infringements by local automaker Cherry Automobile, which allegedly built their Cherry QQ based on the Spark design. Consequently, GM filed a lawsuit on Cherry, accusing them of copying the body structure, exterior and interior design, and key components of the Spark.

In time, the second generation (codenamed M200) was introduced by GM in 2005. Italdesign Giugiaro, who also designed the first generation Spark, did a full model change. Unfortunately, GM Indonesia at the time decided not to bring in the second generation Spark.

Four years after the second generation, in 2009, the Spark made a show-stealing comeback, appearing with a Chevrolet Camaro in the movie Transformers II - Revenge of the Fallen. In that blockbuster, the 2010 All New Spark was still a concept car by the name of Chevrolet Beat.
