A Dream Low MPV

This Toyota's latest generation low MPV looks more upmarket and promises a comfortable and efficient ride for families.

Carmall.com - After seven years, Toyota may have felt that a refinement to this popular car is due. Hence in November 2011, PT. Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) launched the latest generation of this low MPV, calling it the Toyota All New Avanza.

Riding comfort sells and riding comfort matters. And speaking about comfort, comfort is especially an issue of great significance for those vehicles tussling for superiority in Avanza's class.

Since its launch in 2004, the Toyota Avanza has retained a special place amongst Indonesian families. The most significant reasons for this are its 7-passenger capacity, good fuel economy, and perhaps the most compelling of them all, its affordable price.

Now let's see what are new in the All New Avanza that can provide this low MPV a better comfort edge.

Interior

On this edition of road test, CarMall.com deliberately opens this discussion about the Toyota All New Avanza 1.3 G A/T with the aspect of comfort. In our exploration of the issue, some of what we discovered should be able to conclusively address any doubts about comfort, at least partially, if not whole.

In exploring the result of the changes, we went straight for the cabin. Overall, it looks fresh with a new two-tone dashboard and a new seat design.

The Avanza's cabin is roomy, and we do mean concert-hall roomy. Ok, a slight exaggeration perhaps. Its dimensions are now 4,120mm x 1,635mm x 1,695mm (L x W x H), but the real secret behind this perceptible feel lies on the second row seats.

The second row seats are sliding seats that can be slid 60mm forward or backward just by a pull of the lever under the seat. This allows convenient legroom for third row passengers.

The added dimensions also affect the Avanza's trunk capacity. The distance between the shoulder of the third row seats and the trunk door is now 40mm more, resulting in more space for your luggage.

Despite being thinner, a slouch on the seats should still feel super comfortable even on long-distance rides. You also won't have to worry about the scorching sun during the dry season or any other heat unpleasantries outside disturbing the cabin comfort.

Besides having an upper air vent to provide evenly-distributed air circulation inside the cabin, the MPV is now also equipped with ceiling-integrated double-blower AC as a standard feature on this latest Avanza.
