The first series of the 2012 Djarum Black Classic Showdown in Semarang takes classic car fans on a nostalgia while competing for the Best Champion trophy.

Carmall.com - Retro vintage cars fans from Semarang are pouring down in the Djarum Black Classic Showdown (7-8/7), this weekend. As much as 61 classic cars from various types, brands and production years are present in this event.

The participants deploy concepts from restoration, original to extreme modifications. All brought their won individual style. Based on CarMall.com observance, the participants are not comprised of locals only but other surrounding areas like Kudus and Jakarta as well.

They compete with each other to win the Best Champion title for classic category (original and restoration). In addition, The AR Production committee also prepares a Rp. 2 million cash prize for the Best Champion.

Aside from the main title, there is also the Best Retro category which awards cars that adopted the retro concept, they can choose from American Retro or Japanese Retro style. Some cars from this category are Corolla DX, Mitsubishi Lancer, Suzuki Jimny (LJ80) or Mercedes-Benz Tiger and many others.

The assessment for several categories and nominees were based on the opinions from restoration experts, collectors and vintage cars enthusiasts, there are two judges from Jakarta, 1 representative from PPMKI and an honorary judge from Malaysia.

"Best Champion winner from each region deserves a chance to compete in the Grand Final in Bandung, West Java. Therefore, the committee has prepared free transportation", explained Andri Rahardja, Chairman of DBSC (7/7) in the venue at DP Mall, Semarang.

Semarang road show event is the first event from the two series which will be held in Yogyakarta and Bandung in the coming month. Moreover, Andri who is also a Mercedes-Benz diecast collector said that hopefully the passion and public's enthusiasm especially automotive aficionados help in preserving the nation's legacy.

A brief explanation about this two days show, you could witness vehicles which rarely seen on the road these days, whether it's a jeep, sedan, pick-up, or even station wagon. Let's say a Suzuki LJ80 circa 1981 which was modified using diecast style in a scale 1/64" of a Dune Dog, roofless white LJ80, Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 circa 1964 and Mercedes-Benz Unimog 404 from 1961 in a tubular concept with alteration done in its chassis and engine sector.

Not only that, a series of Japanese retro sedan also parked in the DP Mall parking area, cars like the Corolla DX rally style, Mitsubishi Lancer SL Original, Honda Civic Nouva drag style. VW Beetle, VW Bus, Morris Mini Mouke, Holden Statement 1975 which was displayed next to the Mercy Ponton 1955 and Chevy Biscayne Coupe 1959 were also present.

Apparently the retro mojo in this spring-roll city isn't less groovy than the other Indonesian capitals. So, keep it solid brothers.
