Carmall.com - The Chevrolet New Captiva Diesel 2.000cc was officially launched by PT General Motor Indonesia (GMI) at the Ciampel industrial area in Karawang, West Java (16/11). This third generation Captiva features some changes to its exterior such as the application of a bigger grille and main head lights, while the interior offers a 'dual cockpit' dashboard with blue lighting and electric parking brake.

The most significant change lies in its power plant. The 2.000cc diesel engine, which is equipped with a turbo intercooler set at 180 air pressure, now adopts the DOHC (Double Over Head Camshaft) cylinder head in place of the SOHC (Single Over Head Camshaft) type previously used. This is meant to improve fuel efficiency. Aside from that, the belt timing drive previously used has also been replaced with the chain-type to increase engine durability. Lastly, the application of the swirl control on the car that features a 6-speed GM Tiptronic automatic transmission and a front wheel drive system.

Resultedly, the New Captiva Diesel, despite now having a smaller cylinder capacity, is able to generate a maximum power of 163PS at 3.800rpm with 360Nm of torque at 1,750 - 2,750rpm. That number is greater than that of its rivals, such as the Toyota Fortuner (2.500 cc, AT Diesel), which according to its technical specifications can only generate 102PS at 3.600rpm and 26.5Kgm of torque at 1.600 - 2.400 rpm.

The seven-seater Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) is supported by competent safety devices. One of these devices is the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) which is intelligently channeled through the Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD) system, creating an even distribution of breaking load to each disc brake. Furthermore, the dual front airbags provided for the front passengers completes the safety features available inside the cabin.

Exterior and Interior

For those who are unfamiliar, it may be difficult to tell the difference between the exterior of the new Captiva Diesel and that of its predecessor. Upon closer observation however, you'll find that this monocoque chassis-bearing SUV has a different front grille design, which now applies larger vent holes compared to the smaller design on its predecessor.

The main headlamps have also been perfected from the previously large design into a slimmer one. Changes have also been applied to the fog lamps and air vents in the front fender.

On the passenger cabin, the manufacturer only added a standard feature of electric parking brake which automatically unlocks the gear wheel when shifted into D (Drive) or R (Reverse). Other than that, the rest is still the same.

The New Captiva Diesel 2.000cc has a price tag of Rp.355 million (on the road) for colour choices of switchblade silver, royal grey, alphine white, auburn brown and black sapphire. The pearl white variant has a special price tag of Rp.361 million.
