The catastrophe that hit Japan last March 11 moved Toyota Indonesia to aid their struggles

Carmall.com - For that purpose, Toyota Indonesia staffs gathered in a moment of prayer and fund raising effort for victims of the Japan earthquake and tsunami. The occasion was attended by Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia, Kojiro Shiojiro. Besides the many lives that perished, the estimated 8.9 Richter Scale earthquake also crippled Japan's automotive industry.

Indonesia and Japan have long been weaving industrial, economic, and cultural cooperations as well as joint efforts in other fields, not just during normal times but also in dire moments such as natural disasters, in which the two nations help each other to recover. Consequently, Toyota Indonesia initiated a fund raising to be donated to victims of the Japan earthquake and tsunami.

"When the disaster hit Japan, we can feel their burden as we also have suffered similar misfortunes in the past. Toyota Indonesia is moved to lend a hand for post-disaster recovery in Japan. This initiative in fact came from members of the Toyota Indonesia family," President Director of P. T. Toyota-Astra Motor, Johnny Darmawan revealed at Hotel Mandarin Oriental last March 31st.

The effort collected 4.8 billion rupiahs from P. T. Toyota Astra Motor (TAM), P. T. Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN), 55 members of the Toyota Manufacturers (TM) Club, together with 5 main Toyota dealers (Auto 2000, New Ratna Motor, Agung Automall, Hadji Kalla, Hasjrat Abadi) and also 27 other Toyota dealers.
