Carmall.com - PT. Toyota Astra Motor/TAM's ambition to rule our national car market shows its latest proof with a recorded 202,519 units sold in the first semester of 2012. This number constitutes 37.8% of our national car market, which totalled 535,263 units, and is a 36.5% increase over the same period of last year.

Although our car market had its brief moment of uncertainty due to new government policies to limit the consumption of subsidised fuel and increase the minimum down payment of car loans, TAM instead recorded positive growth during the period of January-June.

Johnny Darmawan, President Director of TAM, said that the achievement owes to both our country's positive economic growth as well as the increased trust of consumers in Toyota. "We are making consistent efforts in providing quality new products and technologies, and are actively stimulating the national car market," explained Johnny as quoted from a press release received by CarMall this Thursday (12/7).

The sales increase was supported by sedan products, which managed to sell 9,075 units or a 5,74% market share. The Vios and the Limo became the main contributors with a total of 6,309 units, while the Corolla recorded the highest growth in its class, a 54.4% increase to 72% market share.

There's also the Yaris, which sold 12,910 units. For the MPV model, 2012's first semester recorded 25.4% growth to a total volume of 136,694 units, which consists of the Avanza, Innova and the Alphard.

The Rush and Fortuner also contributed to Toyota's sales increase with 28,635 units sold, or gaining 44.4% market share in the SUV segment. Toyota's total sales in the passenger vehicle segment is 187,934 units. Toyota's commercial vehicles, which comprises the Hilux and the Dyna also contributed to the Japanese manufacturer's sales with 14,297 units, which is a 26.5% increase over the same period of 2011.
