Taking place at the Amarone Café, Kemang, South Jakarta (11/4), GMM launched the newest generation of these two vehicles from different segments, the VW New Caravelle 2.0 Bi-Turbo TDI and the New Touareg 3.0 TDI. Both offer the driving with luxury typical of Volkswagen.

As a reminder of Volkswagen's MPV journey, the media was greeted with a parade of Volkswagen Transporters from the 1^st generation (T1-1951) to the VW Caravelle T5. And at the very tail of that parade emerged the latest Caravelle.

The latest generation Caravelle has two body variants, the Long-Wheel Base (LWB) and the Short-Wheel Base (SWB). VW Caravelle LWB measures 5.290 meters long, while the SWB is 4.890 meters. In spite the difference, both promise comfort for its passengers in the rear cabin with their classy in-car entertainment system.

Just like a limousine, this premium MPV applies a glass separator between the driver's cabin and the passenger's. The pair of seats of the second row can be rotated 180 degrees, while the presence of a foldable table that can easily be shifted allows a more focused business conversation.

After tiring conversations about projects and tenders, you and your business associates can make use of the entertainment system that comes with a 19-inch LCD and 5.1 audio system. The combination provides a better-than-average sound clarity and harmony.

In addition to the high-quality materials of the interior, the second and third row seats can be folded to make extra luggage space without having to rely on the trunk. More interestingly, VW also provides child seats on the Caravelle SWB variant.

In spite of its big size, New Caravelle still packs a competent performance. Through a 2.0 Bi-Turbo TDI diesel engine and 7-speed DSG Dual-Clutch Gearbox transmission, the new VW Caravelle LWB and SWB are able to generate 180hp and 400Nm of torque at low rotation (2,000rpm).

The Volkswagen Caravelle LWB variant is offered at Rp.1.098 billion, while the SWB is at Rp.998 million, on the road.

For Those Who Like a Challenge
Another new product launched by GMM is the VW New Touareg 3.0 TDI. This SUV is claimed to provide a driving sensation that would evoke the adrenaline of business persons. VW even claims that the Touareg is not only comfortable to drive in the urban scene, but can also handle activities in the more natural settings.

CEO of PT Garuda Mataram Motor, Andrew Nasuri, said that the New Touareg features a noise-proof cabin. "The New Touareg is also equipped with a VW EURO 3-standard environmentally friendly diesel engine, is low on emissions, as well as efficient. The Touareg can even provide good torque at lower rpms," said Andrew.

The VW New Touareg carries a 3.0 TDI diesel engine that features 4XMOTION and ABSPlus technology. With it, this SUV is able to produce 240hp and 550Nm torque at 1,750 - 2,750rpm.

Eko Yulianto as the Technical & Training Manager of PT. GMM also added that the New Touareg is a tough SUV because it can climb a 31-degree incline. We ourselves learned this through the press release we obtained, in which the car is claimed to have made a Pan-Americana journey (Alaska - Argentina) and climbed the highest mountain in South America.
