Overview
Featuring a new design, the Toyota Fortuner seems far stronger than the previous model. In addition to that, featuring a 7-seater SUV concept, the car is not only fun to drive on almost any terrains but it also offers a spacious cabin for all the 7 passengers inside. Toyota has proven to be quite successful in the SUV competition and this can be seen with the company’s success in selling 1,480 units till August 2011. In other words, there is an increase of 61.6% compared to the company’s sale till August last year. Toyota is even optimistic that the Grand New Fortuner will record even a better sales figure.
Exterior
The exterior of the SUV from Toyota looks different on the front and the rear exterior. Starting from the headlamps to the grille and front bumper, the current Fortuner looks more manly. Meanwhile, the taillights also come with a new design. In addition to that, customers who buy the current Fortuner model will also get indicator lights on the side mirrors. A set of fog lamps will also keep the driver company with the necessary illumination. The side cladding gives users easy access into the cabin as well as makes the SUV look sportier. The corner bumper protector makes sure that the corners of the bumper are not seriously damaged should any crashes take place.
Interior
The most prominent thing when it comes to the interior is the seating positions of the Toyota Fortuner. With the car’s height exceeding that of most other cars, this SUV is very suitable for those with a tall body posture. Shift lever wrapped in leather material also comes as a standard. At the door trim, a LED is visible and it makes the Fortuner look even classier. This is also emphasized by the scuff plate under the door. Meanwhile, on the ceiling, passengers will find an air purifier unit that will clean the air in the cabin, providing the passengers with a comfortable and healthy feeling.
Underhood
In terms of performance, the Toyota Fortuner counts on a 2,694cc 4-cylinder 16V DOHC VVT-i engine. This engine offers a maximum power of 160.4 PS at 5,200 rpm and a maximum torque of 24.6 kgm at 3,800 rpm. Featuring the electronically controlled fuel injection (EFI) system, the fuel tank of the SUV has a capacity of 65 litres in total. The car uses rear-wheel-drive (RWD) drivetrain combined with rack & pinion steering system.
Safety
To ensure the safety of the driver and all the passengers inside the SUV, Toyota has equipped the Fortuner with a double wishbone with coil spring & stabilizer for the front suspension. Yet, for the rear suspension, Toyota uses 4 link w/ lateral rod & coil spring. Ventilated discs are utilized for front braking while drums are utilized for the rear braking. ABS is also a standard to expect. Also, to prevent car theft, the Toyota Fortuner comes with a pretty reliable immobilizer system from Toyota.
